On the 5th of January of 2012, Fabricio Lima turned 30. After feeling weird and lost, as we all do on our 30th birthdays, he made a list of 30 things he knew about himself so far. Then he created a GIF animation for each one of them.

Joy and I turned 30 at 10:00 and 10:01 on January 9th, 2013, but all we did was high five, have some drinks and move on. I find Fabricio’s GIF animations to be a much more productive alternative.

Fabricio is a designer/director from São Paulo who also writes and contributes with Motionographer.

Two large artworks were chosen from local (female!) artists Emily Gui and Adie Russell, each piece now adorns either side of the bridge. Gui’s work “Moon Phases” and Russell’s “Wide/way” (digital composite of vintage postcards) were picked out of nearly 100 submissions. Yeah, girl power!

It really brightens up the streets of Midtown and leaves everyone in the best mood. Their art will remain for six months until the fall when the exhibition material will be taken down and made into tote bags. More about Gui and Russell here.

Joy and I were excited about ArtBridge coming to Kingston, so we drew a fantastical representation of the town for our submission. Obviously the design was not one of the big winners, but we wanted to share it with you anyway.

I always giggle to myself when people call me a professional, which is silly because hell yes, we’re pros — but it’s just that I so vividly remember being in college with an assignment to interview a professional in the business.  Like it was yesterday.  But that was almost 7 years ago so get over it, Noelle.  You’re a grown up.

Anyway, Yulie is the best.  This week she sent us some doodles she did; she made a comic of an incident that happened one day, just for fun.  I love it because her style is great and I think it’s wonderful to take a funny moment from life and draw it out.  I have been wanting to do this more lately and Yulie has inspired me.  Also, I TOTALLY RELATE to this story.  If you went to Pratt, I bet you can too.  Enjoy, kids!

UGGGghhhhhhhh gross!!!!

No matter how clean we kept our dorm, there were at least 5 incidences where we were up on our desks screaming like cartoon elephants over a tiny mouse or cockroach scurrying across the floor.  Good thing Yulie is tons more brave than I am, and she knows how to handle herself in this situation.

James Buran described himself as an executive daydreamer. Until now! His first independent animated film, completed in just 2.5 weeks, launched today. Perfect for this dreary Monday morning before the election.

A guy who had his story, James dove into production. After a couple of weeks, he created art. Something that does what it’s meant to do – to make people feel. To think. But he was careful not to allow thinking to get in the way of thought. Wink. His unconfined hand-drawn technique and slaphappy tone adds excellent contrast to the film’s topic.

Nobody is the right choice, because Nobody bakes apple pie better than mom and Nobody can take a joke.

yes please! from there the film drops and you fall down the manson hole. it get’s outta hand, and purges energy that jumps off the screen and juggles with your brain. leah broke out the metal!

Jessica Polaniecki and Signe Baumane dreamed up this ladies of animation dinner party. “Sometimes the animation scene in NY can feel a bit like a boys club and it would be fun to see what happens when we remove the boys.”

Here’s what happens – potluck meal/rooftop drinks/scary stories.

Our small community of lovely artists each brought a yummy dish to the gathering at Signe’s studio. I made this with this.

We drank cold wine on the roof until the rain came, then cozied up in a circle telling creepshow scary stories that somehow all started with “…On a night, just like tonight…”

Anyway, ladies. Thanks so much for making this happen. It was pretty nice seeing all of you outside the usual film screening or  birthday thing. This was great, we should do this again sometime!
